Cook-Waite Marcaine 0.5% with Epinephrine 1:200,000 is a sterile, isotonic solution containing bupivacaine hydrochloride and epinephrine, most frequently used to produce long-acting or profound local anesthesia for dental procedures. This formulation of bupivacaine hydrochloride with epinephrine offers extended pain management; hence, it is very suitable for extended dental procedures such as extractions and endodontic treatments. It has a remarkably quick onset time of 2 to 10 minutes, while its duration is as long as 7 hours. That is well beyond the length of action with lidocaine and mepivacaine. This form of Marcaine designed by Cook-Waite has a no-methylparaben formulation to reduce the incidence of allergic hypersensitivity reactions, while 100% latex-free components further minimize the chance of allergic reactions. It is terminally sterilized and packaged in glass cartridges labeled with Mylar to ensure safe use and reduce the possibility of breakage.
